Justice For Dora – pet dog starved to the point she was unable to stand!

A man from Langport, a small town in the parish of Somerset, England neglected his pet dog so badly she was barely able to stand on her feet. In spite of his terrible behavior and utter neglect, the culprit was only handed a suspended jail term. Please support this petition and demand a retrial, to have this callous man sent behind bars, where he belongs!

Michael John Wade failed to give his pet dog, dubbed Dora, proper food and water for an extent period of time. When RSPCA inspectors visited the premises, they discovered the terrified dog lying on the floor, yelping in distress. She was so thin and weak she could not walk on her own.

During his appearance at Somerset Magistrates Court, the 37-year-old admitted that the dg was ‘in pretty bad condition’ and pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the Staffodshire Bull terrier dog between August 12 and November 12 last year.

Upon vet inspection, Dora was rated as 0.5 on a scale of zero to five, where zero is considered skeletal. She was placed under intensive treatment and after three weeks, Dora had managed to gain three kilograms and started to become her old self again.

However, the canine started developing a series of fits and had to be put to sleep. Although the RSPCA has pointed out that there was no direct link between the fits and the neglected treatment from her owner, Dora’s suffering cannot ever be put into question.

The defense attorney claimed that his client was going through a rough patch in his personal life, but cared deeply about the dog. Wade claimed that besides this, he never had enough money to get the dog to a veterinarian and also had no means of transport.

Michael John Wade was handed out an eight-week jail term, suspended for two years and was banned from keeping animals for the next 10 years. The decision means that Wade will not spend a day behind bars; he will also be appeal to appeal the pet ownership ban within five years; he was also ordered to pay £100 ($140) towards costs and an £80 ($110) victim surcharge.

I am extremely displeased by the fact that Michael John Wade has received such a lenient sentence. This verdict is unjust and comes to show extremely poor judgement on behalf of the sentencing judge.
